What Is The Responsibility Of An ISSM / ISSO?
One of the primary functions of the United States Government is to protect its citizens. As an ISSM / ISSO you will have an awesome responsibility to protect the classified and sensitive information entrusted to your agency or organization by the U.S. Government.

What Is A Typical Job Description?
ISSM's and ISSO's with responsibility and accountability of day-day Security Operations and/or other functional areas to include but not limited to:

Develop, Implement and Manage a formal Information Security / Information Systems Security Program.
Develop an Information Systems Security, Education, Training, and Awareness Program (SETA).
Develop, Implement and Enforce Information Security Policies and Procedures.
Review and Oversee all Information Systems Security Plans / SSPS (Certification/Accreditation).
Ensure ISSO's follow established Information Security Policies and Procedures.
Ensure all ISSO's and Security Personnel receive the required Technical and Security Training.
Manage and Coordinate Information Security Inspections and Incident Response.
Ensure proper Protection and / or Corrective Measures have been taken when an Incident or Vulnerability has been discovered.
Perform Risk Assessments.

What Compensation Can I Receive As A Trained ISSM / ISSO?
You may earn between $90K-$125K. Salaries may depend on many factors such as; Years of Experience in Information Security or Computers, Having a Degree, Having a CISSP Certification, Having Specialized Training and Having a Security Clearance.

What Types Of Classified Data / Information Systems Can I Be Expected To Protect?

National Security Systems Contain Classified Information.
Involves intelligence activities.
Involves cryptographic activities related to national security.
Involves command and control of military forces.
Involves equipment that is an integral part of a weapon or weapons systems.
Is critical to the direct fulfillment of military or intelligence missions (not including routine administrative and business applications).

Classification Categories

Information May Not Be Considered For Classification Unless It Concerns:

Military plans, weapons systems, or operations.
Foreign government information.
Intelligence activities (including special activities), intelligence sources or methods, or

cryptology.
Foreign relations or foreign activities of the United States, including confidential sources.
